Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of
spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use at any time. It has
been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and
always creates a beneficial effect. It works in conjunction with
all other therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's
Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". Reiki can therefore be considered"spiritually guided life force energy. This "hands on" healing technique is passed on via initiation and ritual. It is not a religion however it is a deeply spiritual experience. Reiki improves our connection with our inner being and higher self.
All receivers of Reiki are healed in their own way. The practitioner is not doing the healing. He/she is the channel, not the controller of the experience. Just like the dial on a radio as it is used to tune in to a radio station, the Reiki practitioner is is attuned to receiving and directing universal energy. A treatment feels like a subtle, wonderful glowing radiance
that flows through and around you. During the treatment you will be invited to lie in a comfortable position, fully clothed on a massage/healing table. The practitioner will explain to you what you can expect to happen during the healing session. As the healing is conducted the practitioner may work hands on and/or hands off, moving from your feet toward your head, focusing on clearing the energy from each of your chakras. As the healing is taking place it is normal to feel heat coming from the hands of the practitioner. Sometimes you may feel some unusual sensations like a gentle rocking or clearing of energy that has been stuck. Talking is permitted and it is important for you to speak up if any part of the experience makes you feel uncomfortable. Most clients prefer to have their eyes closed and to remain silent. Some even feel so relaxed that they fall asleep.
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being. Many clients have reported miraculous results in different situations. Reiki can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the appropriate effect. A practitioner never needs to decide whether to give a healing or not or where to direct the healing because the universal energy will always be directed to the right location in the right intensity.
A Reiki healing works in a number of ways:
- It cleanses the body of toxins
- It allows the body to relax completely to allow the body's natural processes to work
- It is a very subtle and gentle method of healing yet works on a very deep level
- It promotes spiritual and mental well being
- It works with people, animals and plants
- It re-vitalizes on all levels i.e. physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, and
- It harmonises the natural flow of energy in the body
By changing the inner energy levels within the body, Reiki will also affect and change the outer physical body manifestations.
As a scientist I have always been interested in the how and why of everything I've experienced during my life. I received my first Reiki attunement many years ago after I was drawn to an advertisement in a local newspaper advertising Reiki classes. I had no idea what this was about, just that it was something I wanted to learn more about. I was very surprised as to what I learned. I studied Reiki 1 with one practitioner and then went on to do Reiki 1 & 2 and become a Reiki Master with a second practitioner. Scientifically I can't really describe on a molecular level what happens during a Reiki session but I do know from personal experience that Reiki works. I have used Reiki on many occasions with immediate, powerful, positive results. If you are yet to experience Reiki, next time you're considering self improvement and development why not consider incorporating Reiki as part of the process?
Life can be pretty stressful and fast moving, particularly in today's technological society. What are some ways that you unwind after a busy day? Have you ever considered aromatherapy? Scientific evidence supports the use of aromatherapy to help your body relax and de-stress and also to help improve your mood.
