Pogostemon cablin has a spicy, earthy, musky, sweet, rich aroma which gives a lasting, alluring quality to any essential oil blend.  Patchouli essential oil is extracted from the leaves of the plant via steam distillation.  It has sedative properties and is useful in treating stress and anxiety.  It may also be used as an insect repellent and is also indicated for acne and seborrheic eczema.  This base note blends well with bergamot, geranium, rose geranium, sandalwood and vetiver.  There are no reports of contraindications or side effects when this oil is used properly.
