Pinus sylvestris, also known as Scotch Pine or Norway Pine, has a clean, fresh, balsamic, coniferous, woody scent with stimulating antiseptic and deodorizing properties. Externally it is used as a liniment or ointment for minor neuralgic pains.  It may be inhaled for bronchitis, sinusitis to tonify the respiratory system.  Pine combines well with other antiseptic oils, especially cypress, cedarwood, tea tree and eucalyptus.  It also blends well with bergamot, juniper berry, lemon and marjoram.

Take extra care to check the botanical name of pine oil before use.  Other pines may be hazardous. When used for topical application it is recommended in concentrations of 1% or less.  This oil should be avoided during pregnancy and is not suitable for babies or infants.
