Salvia rosmarinus has a strong, clear, penetrating, refreshing, herbaceous fragrance.  Until 2017 it was known by the scientific name Rosmarinus officinalis.  Rosemary oil is obtained via steam distillation of the leaves, tops, flowers and sometimes the leafy stalks.  It is classified is a mid note.  The essential oil and hydrosol is indicated for use as a hair and skin tonic.  Rosemary oil is incorporated in many massage and wake-up blends.  This is because it improves circulation, calms the nerves, reduces fatigue, stimulates the brain.  It is also useful as an insect repellent and respiratory problems.  Externally it may used as a solution, liniment, ointment and in a partial or full bath for its relaxing and tonic effects.

Rosemary blends well with basil, cedarwood, citrus essences, frankincense, lemongrass and peppermint.  Exposure to Rosemary should be avoided during pregnancy, if epileptic or have high blood pressure.  It should not be applied to or near the face of infants or children.  In rare cases Rosemary has been known to cause allergic reactions, otherwise it is generally regarded as safe when used correctly.
