West Indian Amyris balsamifera is a different species to the protected, more costly East Indian Sandalwood and Australian Sandalwood however it still qualifies as a suitable substitute with its smooth, slightly balsamic, woody aroma.  Sandalwood is a base note with strengthening, balancing and sedative qualities.  It blends well with many other oils including bergamot, clary sage, frankincense, geranium, juniper, Lavender, lime,orange, rose Geranium and ylang ylang. When used in blends it prolongs the scent of other extracts.  It is also indicated as a relaxant, for stress and insomnia.
