Vanilla planifolia or V.fragrens is a floral, rich, soft, warm, balsamic aroma.  The plant itself has no odour.  This develops upon drying and curing of the bean-like fruit.  The immature pods are picked, put on to trays, and then left to ferment.  This is when they turn brown and become extremely fragrant.  As the vanillin develops, it accumulates as white crystals on the bean.  Solvents are then used to release the aromatic compounds. Vanilla oil is a powerful aphrodisiac and blends really well with sandalwood oil.
