Salvia sclarea has a warming and relaxing woody green herbaceous aroma that is mildly intoxicating.  This essential oil has a multitude of beneficial actions, making it a handy oil to have in any essential oil collection.  The volatile oil is obtained by steam distillation from the fresh areal parts of the plant.  It blends well with citrus oils, Cedarwood, Frankincense, Geranium, Juniper, Lavender and Sandalwood.   It has aromatic, antispasmodic, carminative, sedative and antimicrobial properties.  It is considered antispasmodic and is useful for hot flashes, nervous fatigue and as an aphrodisiac.  The scent may assist to help lift depression and soothe premenstrual syndrome and emotional distress.
