Pure Boswellia carteri has a dry, woody, balsamic aroma that improves with age.  Its powerful fragrance is still used today as incense in temples and churches.  This resinous base note has sedative, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-bacterial qualities.  It is indicated for asthma, immune deficiencies, nervous depression and in perfume blends.  It blends well with citrus oils, basil, cedarwood, cypress, spice oils, lavender, patchouli and rose. 

This essential oil is not recommended during the first 3 months of pregnancy.  In rare cases exposure to this oil may cause allergic reactions, otherwise there are no reports of contraindications or side effects when used properly.

An alternative to frankincense essential oil is any fixed oil such as olive, almond or coconut oil which has been infused with frankincense resin.  This is our preferred method of adding frankincense to skin care products such as salves and lotions.
